Amazon India Plans to Roll Out Quick Commerce Service ‘Tez’ by December or Early 2025: Report

Amazon India Set to Launch Quick Commerce Service 'Tez' by Year-End, Joining Rapidly Growing Market

Amazon India is gearing up to launch its quick commerce service, codenamed Tez, by late December or early next year, marking the company’s first venture into the quick commerce space globally. This move is set to put Amazon in direct competition with established players in the sector, including Zepto, Zomato’s Blinkit, and Swiggy’s Instamart, which currently dominate the market.

According to a report by The Economic Times, the quick commerce sector has seen massive growth, with companies in the space generating around $5.5-6 billion in gross sales just this month alone. The quick commerce business model focuses on delivering groceries and essential items within minutes, capitalizing on the increasing demand for fast and efficient delivery services.

Amazon India’s quick commerce service will be discussed in the company’s next monthly review meeting in December, just ahead of its annual Smbhav event. The company has already formed a core team for the project and is actively hiring for this initiative, which is being described as a “greenfield, grounds-up” project designed to tap into the rapidly growing e-commerce sector in India.

The launch of Tez follows Amazon’s rivals’ moves into the quick commerce space. Flipkart launched its Minutes service before the October festive season, and Tata’s BigBasket has switched to a quick commerce model, reporting over ₹900 crore in gross sales last month. Additionally, Tata Digital introduced its Neu Flash service.

Despite the high competition, experts see significant potential for growth in the sector. A recent Morgan Stanley report suggests that the quick commerce market is expected to surpass the food delivery market in gross order value by 2026. While competition remains fierce, analysts believe that the market size is large enough for each player to grow substantially over the next three to five years.

Currently, Amazon’s Tez is a working title, and the final name for the service has not yet been confirmed. As the company prepares for the service’s debut, it is clear that quick commerce will become an increasingly important part of India’s e-commerce landscape, and Amazon is eager to establish itself as a key player in this fast-evolving space.

With its launch, Amazon will aim to capitalize on the growing demand for speedier deliveries, joining other major players in reshaping the retail delivery landscape in India.
