Finding Her Voice Through Writing
At 19, Chahat is preparing for an important milestone in her creative journey: her first-ever Mushaira performance at KALANAMA on 27th September. Although this will be her first time performing publicly, writing has been a part of her life since 9th grade.
What began as private writing in her diary gradually became a deeper connection with literature. From classical works to ghazals, literature has become a space where she can express thoughts and emotions that are difficult to put into words.
Taking the stage with a microphone and presenting her own ghazal is a new experience for Chahat, bringing a mix of nervousness, excitement and gratitude.
Balancing Numbers and Literature
Chahat’s interests extend beyond poetry. She is pursuing Accounts & Finance while also completing a second graduation in Data Science, bringing together two seemingly different worlds.
For her, however, numbers and literature complement each other. While finance and data encourage logical thinking, literature provides a way to understand and express emotions.
Her curiosity extends across subjects, from balance sheets and data sets to the technical structure of ghazals, known as beher. Writing allows her to bring these different ways of thinking together while giving her thoughts a creative voice.
A First Mushaira With a Bigger Purpose
Chahat’s first Mushaira is particularly meaningful because KALANAMA is also being organised as a fundraiser to support the education of five students.
For a student herself, Chahat understands the importance of having access to educational opportunities. Knowing that her performance can contribute to someone else’s education has given her first public appearance an added sense of purpose.
For her, the event represents more than an opportunity to perform. It is also a chance to contribute through her writing and become part of a collective effort to support five students and their futures.
Bringing Honest Poetry to the Stage
On 27th September at Jainam Hall, Chahat plans to present a ghazal inspired by emotions and experiences that she has not always expressed openly.
She describes herself as someone who is still learning the art of ghazal writing. Rather than aiming for perfection, she wants her performance to remain genuine and honest.
Her hope is simple: if her words can make even one person feel something, while also helping support the education of five students, she will consider the performance meaningful.
