In the midst of winter, northern parts of India grapple with persistent cold wave conditions and dense fog, causing disruptions in both air and rail travel. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), these chilly conditions are expected to prevail until January 27.

As a result of the cold wave-like conditions enveloping the National Capital Region (NCR), the Gautam Budh Nagar district magistrate, Manish Kumar Verma, issued an order on Wednesday to postpone the commencement of classes for students from nursery to class 8 in Noida and Greater Noida. The delayed start, effective from January 18, mandates that all schools, including those recognized by state boards, CBSE, ICSE, IB, UP Board, and others, begin their classes at 10 am until further notice.

The national capital faced severe disruptions in flight operations at the Indira Gandhi International Airport on Sunday, with about 10 flights diverted and over 100 facing delays due to dense fog causing low visibility. The thick fog, a result of the ongoing cold wave, has enveloped Delhi over the past three days, reaching the lowest minimum temperature of the winter season.

Delhi experienced the coldest night of the winter season for the second consecutive day, with the minimum temperature dropping to a bone-chilling 3 degrees Celsius in Aya Nagar, the last village on the Mehrauli-Gurgaon Road. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert due to the prevailing cold wave and dense fog conditions in both Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR).

In a bone-chilling turn of events, Delhi experienced its coldest morning of the season today, as the temperature plummeted to 3.9 degrees Celsius. The icy conditions not only gripped the city but also wreaked havoc on road, rail, and air traffic due to the enveloping dense fog.

Chandigarh's Shaheed Bhagat Singh International Airport faced a tumultuous second day with dense fog and low visibility, causing disruptions in operations, leading to the cancellation of 13 flights and delays for 26 others.
