In a significant stride towards gender diversity in leadership roles, Nina Singh has achieved a groundbreaking milestone by becoming the first woman to be appointed as the head of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF). Her elevation marks a pivotal moment in the security apparatus of India.

Singh, a distinguished 1989-batch IPS officer, has been serving as the Special Director General of CISF, a central paramilitary force entrusted with securing airports, Delhi Metro, government premises, and crucial infrastructural sites across the nation. Stepping into the additional charge of CISF DG following the superannuation of Sheel Vardhan Singh on August 31, Nina Singh’s appointment underscores her extensive experience and commendable service within the force.

Her journey within the Indian Police Service began as a Manipur cadre officer and later transitioned to the Rajasthan cadre. With a trajectory marked by dedication and proficiency, Singh is set to lead CISF until her retirement on July 31, 2024, heralding a new chapter in the force’s leadership.

Simultaneously, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet sanctioned pivotal appointments within other central paramilitary forces. Intelligence Bureau luminary Rahul Rasgotra, a respected 1989-batch IPS officer, secured the position of Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) chief. His extensive tenure and specialized expertise within the Intelligence Bureau, spanning nearly three decades, position him strategically to lead ITBP.

Rasgotra’s appointment coincides with the heightened need for enhanced intelligence capabilities within the paramilitary force, emphasizing the imperative role of intelligence gathering and surveillance.

Concurrently, Anish Dayal Singh, an accomplished 1988-batch IPS officer, assumed the Director General role of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). He had been overseeing the CRPF DG’s responsibilities alongside his leadership at ITBP and will continue to steer CRPF until his superannuation on December 31, 2024.

These significant appointments reflect a pivotal moment in India’s security landscape, highlighting expertise, experience, and a progressive approach in key leadership roles within central paramilitary forces.
