Nagpur: Indian Council for Technical Research and Development, in association with the PG Department of Education at Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University, organized a Round Table Forum on the theme “Emerging India: The Role of Nagpur in Achieving Viksit Bharat 2047” at the Law College Campus in Nagpur. The program was inaugurated by Mayor Neeta Rajendra Thakare.
The forum witnessed participation from over 40 experts representing startups, academia, healthcare, governance, skill development, and industry sectors. During the discussion, Dr. Ketan Mohitkar highlighted the growing importance of citizen participation and innovation-led governance in building a sustainable and developed India.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Mohitkar stated that meaningful development can only be achieved when citizens actively participate in identifying and solving local challenges. He explained that ICTRD has been working closely with civic bodies and institutions to create structured innovation platforms where students, professionals, entrepreneurs, and even senior citizens can contribute practical solutions for urban and social issues.
He noted that initiatives such as ICTRD’s Citizen Hackathon have encouraged people from different backgrounds to develop ideas, presentations, and prototypes focused on real-world civic problems. According to him, this collaborative approach is gradually creating a stronger culture of grassroots innovation and public engagement in governance.
Reflecting on ICTRD’s contribution during the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Mohitkar recalled how the organization supported startups and educational institutions during a critical period. He emphasized ICTRD’s role in assisting universities through academic coordination and digital support systems, which helped ensure continuity in examinations and educational activities despite widespread disruptions.
Speaking further, he highlighted the success of the Innovators Meet initiative, which enabled innovators and entrepreneurs to directly interact with the Chief Minister. He remarked that such initiatives help bridge the gap between policymakers and grassroots innovators while accelerating the adoption of innovative solutions across sectors.
Dr. Mohitkar also spoke about ICTRD’s institutional model, noting that the organization operates through a self-sustaining Secretariat system without government funding. He shared that ICTRD’s nationwide network includes more than 350 experts from diverse fields who contribute toward research, innovation, policy discussions, and capacity-building initiatives.
Sharing his long-term vision, he announced plans for establishing a large-scale Innovation Campus along the Amravati Highway aimed at promoting research, incubation, startup development, and collaborative innovation activities in the region.
Concluding his address, Dr. Mohitkar emphasized that Nagpur has the potential to emerge as a major innovation and knowledge hub in India’s journey toward Viksit Bharat 2047. He stressed
that strategic planning, institutional collaboration, and active citizen participation will play a decisive role in transforming Tier-II cities into drivers of national growth.
