Japan-Bound Flight Accidentally Shows R-Rated Movie to All Passengers Without Option to Turn Off

Japan-Bound Qantas Flight Accidentally Plays R-Rated Movie, Causing Discomfort Among Passengers

Passengers aboard Qantas flight QF59 from Sydney to Haneda, Japan, were left shocked when a technical glitch caused an explicit R-rated movie to be played on all in-flight screens. The incident, which occurred mid-flight, displayed the movie Daddio (2023), starring Dakota Johnson and Sean Penn, which features explicit sexual content and graphic nudity. This caused significant discomfort, particularly among families traveling with children.

According to a Reddit post by one of the passengers, the in-flight entertainment system malfunctioned, and the film played without an option to pause, dim, or turn off the screens. “It was super uncomfortable for everyone, especially with families and kids on board,” the passenger wrote, highlighting the awkwardness of the situation.

The incident lasted nearly an hour before crew members were able to replace the inappropriate movie with a more family-friendly option. Qantas acknowledged the issue, explaining that a technical problem prevented passengers from choosing individual films. In a statement, a Qantas spokesperson apologized for the situation, stating, “The movie was clearly not suitable to play for the whole flight, and we sincerely apologize to customers for this experience.” The airline assured that they are investigating how the movie was selected.

Despite the crew’s attempts to rectify the situation by asking passengers for their movie preferences and attempting to fix the screens, they ultimately had to switch to a more suitable film once it became clear that the content was inappropriate for all audiences.

Qantas emphasized that its standard protocol is to play family-friendly films when individual movie selection is unavailable, and they are looking into the malfunction to prevent similar incidents in the future.
