In response to escalating political turmoil in Bangladesh, both IndiGo and Air India have canceled their flights to and from Dhaka. The cancellations come in the wake of a severe crisis triggered by the resignation and subsequent departure of Bangladesh’s Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
IndiGo announced the suspension of its flights from Dhaka to India, effective Tuesday. The airline confirmed that flights operating on Monday would continue as scheduled but noted that all future flights have been canceled until further notice.
Air India has also halted its flights to Dhaka with immediate effect. In an update on social media platform X, the airline stated, “In view of the emerging situation in Bangladesh, we have canceled the scheduled operation of our flights to and from Dhaka with immediate effect.” The airline has assured passengers with confirmed bookings that they can reschedule or cancel their flights without incurring additional charges. Air India is offering a one-time waiver on rescheduling and cancellation fees and has advised passengers to contact their 24/7 Contact Centre for more information.
The political crisis in Bangladesh intensified dramatically after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned and fled the country. The 76-year-old leader has sought refuge in India, arriving at Ghaziabad’s Hindon Air Base aboard a C-130 transport aircraft. Her arrival and movements have been closely monitored by the Indian Air Force and security agencies.
Protests in Dhaka have turned violent, with demonstrators storming the prime minister’s residence and setting fire to key locations, including the Bangabandhu Memorial Museum. The unrest has led to widespread destruction and further heightened the crisis.
The situation remains fluid, and both airlines are closely monitoring developments. Passengers planning to travel to Dhaka are advised to check for updates and contact their airlines for the latest information on flight operations.
