Zepto Plans Headquarters Relocation from Mumbai to Bengaluru, Employees Required to Move

Zepto to Relocate Headquarters from Mumbai to Bengaluru, Employees Mandated to Move

Quick commerce startup Zepto is set to shift its headquarters from Mumbai to Bengaluru, according to a recent report by Moneycontrol. The three-year-old company will be relocating its base from Powai in Mumbai to Sarjapur in Bengaluru, consolidating its operations into a new, larger office space.

The move involves relocating Zepto’s 1,700-1,800 employees to Bengaluru, where the company already has a presence with its tech and product teams. Employees have been informed that they must complete their relocation by the end of November or early December. The company has promised to cover relocation expenses for those willing to make the move, estimating a total cost of ₹3-4 crore. This one-time expense is expected to be offset by monthly savings of ₹40-50 lakh in rent.

Currently, Zepto operates from an 80,000-90,000 square feet property in Mumbai, while its Bengaluru office occupies 30,000-40,000 square feet. The company plans to vacate both spaces and move into a new 1.5 lakh square feet property in Bengaluru. The new location is reportedly in advanced stages of finalization in the Sarjapur, HSR, or Bellandur areas, which are home to numerous large multinational companies and startups.

According to sources, about 90 percent of the 1,000 employees in Mumbai are already on board with the relocation, while the remaining employees are still in discussions. It is anticipated that only 5-7 percent may be unable to relocate.

Zepto’s decision to move headquarters is part of a strategic consolidation aimed at streamlining operations and reducing costs, placing the company in close proximity to its tech and product teams and aligning with its rivals Swiggy and Flipkart, who also have offices in the same neighborhood.
