Chandigarh experienced its coldest day of the winter season as the minimum temperature plummeted to 2.7°C on Tuesday, marking the third consecutive day of cold wave conditions. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that this is the first time since 2017 that the city’s minimum temperature dropped below 3°C. In 2017, it had fallen to 2.4°C on January 11.

The frigid conditions also brought about zero visibility in the morning, a rare occurrence for this season. IMD officials predict that the chances of dense fog and cold day conditions will persist on Tuesday.

Ballowal Saunkhri in Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar retained its status as the coldest place in Punjab for the second day, with temperatures dipping from minus 0.2°C on Monday to minus 0.4°C on Tuesday. Mahendragarh claimed the title of the coldest station in Haryana at 0.7°C.

Several areas in Punjab, including Bathinda, experienced zero visibility, leading to the cancellation of three departure flights from Shaheed Bhagat Singh International Airport due to poor visibility until 9.30 am.

In other parts of Punjab, Amritsar recorded a minimum temperature of 5.4°C, Ludhiana 3.3°C, Patiala 3.1°C, Pathankot 4°C, Bathinda 3°C, Faridkot 3.5°C, and Gurdaspur 3.5°C. Haryana reported Hisar with a low of 1.1°C, Ambala at 4.4°C, Karnal at 3.2°C, and Narnaul, Bhiwani, and Sirsa at 3°C, 3.9°C, and 4.2°C, respectively.
