In a significant spiritual gesture, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the Veerbhadra Temple in Lepakshi, Andhra Pradesh, a place of profound importance in the Hindu epic Ramayana. This pilgrimage comes just days before the ‘Pran Pratishtha’ ceremony of the much-anticipated Ram Temple in Ayodhya.
Lepakshi is believed to be the sacred site where Jatayu, the giant eagle from the Ramayana, followed Goddess Sita after her abduction by Ravan. According to legend, Jatayu, while succumbing to mortal wounds, conveyed crucial information about Goddess Sita’s captivity. In recognition of this sacrifice, Lord Ram granted Jatayu ‘Moksha,’ divine liberation, at Lepakshi.
The Prime Minister’s visit to this historic location holds symbolic significance as the nation prepares for the consecration ceremony of the grand Ram Temple in Ayodhya. PM Modi, on a two-day trip to Andhra Pradesh and Kerala, is scheduled to inaugurate various development projects, including the New Dry Dock and the International Ship Repair Facility at Cochin Shipyard Limited.
On Wednesday, the Prime Minister is set to offer prayers at Guruvayur and Thriprayar Shree Ramaswami temples in Kerala, as announced by the Prime Minister’s Office.
The upcoming ‘Pran Pratishtha’ ceremony in Ayodhya, scheduled for January 22, has garnered immense attention, with lakhs of pilgrims expected to witness the installation of the idol of Lord Ram in the sanctum sanctorum. In preparation for the event, local authorities are implementing heightened security measures and logistical arrangements to accommodate the surge in visitors.
The idol of ‘Ram Lalla,’ sculpted in black stone by Mysuru artist Arun Yogiraj, has been selected for the Ram Temple after careful consideration by a panel. Champat Rai, the general secretary of the Ram Temple trust, announced on Monday that the unanimous choice of the panel was the Ram Lalla idol created by Mr. Yogiraj.
Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Lepakshi and the subsequent plans to offer prayers at revered temples reinforce the spiritual and cultural significance attached to the events leading up to the historic inauguration of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya.
