Laurene Powell, the wife of late Apple co-founder Steve Jobs, is set to attend the upcoming Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. This will be her second visit to India, and she is expected to attend the religious gathering to seek spiritual blessings and meditate.

Swami Kailashnand Ji Maharaj, a prominent spiritual leader, confirmed Powell’s visit and shared that she has been given a Hindu name, “Kamala,” and is considered like a daughter to the spiritual community. Speaking with ANI, Swami Kailashnand mentioned, “She is coming to visit her guru here. We have named her Kamala and she is like a daughter to us. This is the second time she is coming to India. Everyone is welcome in Kumbh.”

Laurene Powell’s visit is seen as a personal journey to deepen her spiritual practice, and Swami Kailashnand emphasized that she will be meditating during her time at the Kumbh. When asked about Powell’s possible inclusion in the Akhara’s Peshawai, the religious procession, Swami Kailashnand expressed that they would leave the decision up to her. As the Kumbh Mela preparations intensify, the Uttar Pradesh government is ensuring that all necessary arrangements are in place for the smooth conduct of the event. Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak confirmed that all the preparations have been completed, ensuring the safety and comfort of the thousands of pilgrims expected to attend.

Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya assured that the event will be grand and divine, with safety and management lessons drawn from previous editions of the Kumbh Mela. “Complete arrangements have been made to welcome everyone and ensure their safe bath,” he said.

Additionally, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath praised the efforts of Prasar Bharti for launching a special radio channel, ‘Kumbhvani,’ to broadcast the Maha Kumbh events, ensuring that people in remote areas can experience the festival’s grandeur. “We will deliver all information about the Maha Kumbh to those living in remote villages via these facilities,” CM Adityanath said.

The Maha Kumbh Mela, celebrated once every 12 years, is expected to draw over 45 crore devotees. The festival will be held at the Sangam, the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati rivers, where devotees gather to take a holy dip. The event will conclude on February 26, 2025.

With major preparations in place and international visitors like Laurene Powell adding to the event’s spiritual significance, the Maha Kumbh Mela promises to be a significant and historic gathering.
