“Jyotiraditya Scindia Collaborates with Top Industrialists to Plan Telecom Sector Growth”

Union Minister of Telecom, Jyotiraditya Scindia, convened a crucial brainstorming session on Tuesday with top industrialists from the telecom sector to strategize the growth trajectory of India’s telecommunications industry. Among the key figures present were Akash Ambani, Chairman of Reliance Jio, Sunil Bharti Mittal, Founder and Chairman of Bharti Airtel, and Akshaya Moondra, MD and CEO of Vodafone Idea.

This marked the first meeting of telecom sector leaders with Minister Scindia under the third term of the NDA government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The session focused on charting a roadmap for the telecom industry amidst recent tariff increases ranging from 10% to 27%.

During the meeting, Minister Scindia emphasized collaborative growth while prioritizing consumer interests and national development. “We have identified a comprehensive agenda for these committees. Members and stakeholders will work together to address sectoral challenges,” stated Minister Scindia in a post-meeting briefing.

The advisory committee of telecom service providers, which included key industry players and representatives from the Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI), discussed various issues and outlined initial action plans. Minister Scindia highlighted the significance of these committees in bolstering India’s communication sector, aiming to align with the vision of a self-reliant India and positioning it as a global telecom powerhouse.

Sources indicated that discussions, spanning approximately half an hour, underscored the minister’s commitment to placing consumer welfare at the forefront of industry growth. “All three private players expressed their support for the minister’s vision. Sunil Bharti Mittal commended the initiative to engage closely with the industry and establish committees to address sector-specific challenges,” a source familiar with the discussions revealed.

In addition to telecom giants, Minister Scindia also engaged with representatives from internet service providers, infrastructure committees, academia, and research and development (R&D) sectors. The meetings aimed to foster collaborations that would drive innovation and enhance technological capabilities within the telecom ecosystem.

Earlier, Minister Scindia held strategic sessions with advisory groups focusing on satellite communications, electronics ecosystems, and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to further India’s goal of achieving self-reliance and global leadership in these critical sectors.

As India gears up to strengthen its telecom infrastructure and capabilities, ongoing dialogues and collaborations with industry leaders are expected to pave the way for transformative developments in the telecommunications landscape.
