In a troublesome development for millions of users, Instagram suffered a widespread outage, leaving several people unable to access the popular photo and video-sharing platform. The disruption occurred on Thursday, coinciding with another outage faced by WhatsApp, both of which are owned by Meta, the parent company.
According to reports from HT Tech, the Instagram outage started the previous night and continued through Thursday. While some users faced issues last night, approximately 600 more individuals reported problems accessing the app on the following day.
DownDetector, a platform that tracks social media app outages, revealed the extent of the Instagram issues. The data showed that a staggering 80% of users were unable to access Instagram altogether, while 17% experienced problems with their feeds. An additional 3% reported difficulties with the website. Moreover, some users complained about not being able to send images via direct messages (DMs).
Despite the widespread inconvenience, neither Instagram nor its parent company, Meta, has issued any official acknowledgement or statement regarding the outage. Users took to social media to express their frustration as they grappled with the technical difficulties on the platform.
The concurrent outage of WhatsApp, another popular messaging service under Meta’s umbrella, added to the concerns and speculations among users. However, WhatsApp’s service was later restored, bringing relief to its users.
As the outage persists for some Instagram users, the lack of communication from the social media giant has left many seeking answers. With millions relying on Instagram for communication, entertainment, and business purposes, the urgency to restore functionality and address the underlying issues grows.
Instagram’s technical team is likely working diligently to identify the root cause and resolve the problems promptly. However, until an official statement is released by the platform or its parent company, users may have to exercise patience while waiting for a resolution.
As the situation unfolds, Instagram users remain hopeful for a swift resolution, eager to return to seamless app access, uninterrupted feeds, and the smooth functioning of direct messaging.
