“Influencer Criticizes Diljit Dosanjh for Charging ₹20-25K Per Ticket for Dil-Luminati Tour Amid Economic Strain”

The recent announcement of Punjabi singer Diljit Dosanjh’s Dil-Luminati Tour India dates has sparked controversy over ticket pricing. Tickets for the tour, which went on sale earlier this week, sold out within minutes, but not without eliciting criticism from some quarters.

Saumya Sahni, a Mumbai-based comedian and social media influencer, has taken to the internet to voice her discontent with the high cost of tickets for the tour. In a video posted on Friday, Sahni argued that the ₹20,000 to ₹25,000 ticket prices are excessive for many of Diljit’s Indian fans, particularly those from middle-class backgrounds.

Sahni stated, “I might regret saying this later, but I absolutely have to. No Indian artiste should charge ₹20-25 thousand for a concert in India when they are performing in multiple cities. Your core audience often has limited means and cannot afford such prices. There are very few artists who perform in our language, and access to such performances should not be restricted by high ticket costs.”

She further compared Dosanjh’s pricing to that of international artists, suggesting that the latter often charge significantly less for their shows despite performing in larger venues. “International artists charge around $100-150 per ticket, and even festivals like Lollapalooza have lower ticket prices despite their large lineups. It’s surprising to see such high prices for an artist who could easily fill multiple shows per city,” Sahni added.

Reactions to Sahni’s critique have been mixed. Some social media users agreed with her assessment, expressing frustration over the perceived disparity between the ticket prices and the average income of Diljit’s fans. One Instagram user remarked, “He’s gonna realize this when he’s singing and nobody sings back,” while another suggested, “Being a middle-class person, I never expected Diljit to be so drowned in fame and money lust.”

Others pointed out that the high demand for tickets demonstrates the significant popularity of Dosanjh’s shows, despite the steep prices. “Diljit could easily sell out multiple stadium shows per city, but money > fanbase I guess! Didn’t expect it,” said one commenter.

Diljit Dosanjh’s Dil-Luminati Tour has been a hot topic since the announcement of its Indian leg earlier in September. With all tickets selling out almost immediately after they became available, the tour has generated significant buzz and anticipation. However, the debate over ticket prices highlights ongoing concerns about affordability and accessibility in the entertainment industry.
