
A FedEx cargo aircraft made an emergency landing at Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey on Saturday morning after a bird strike caused an engine fire, according to reports.
Videos circulating on social media captured the dramatic moment the aircraft returned to the runway with flames visible near its right engine.
Port Authority of New York and New Jersey spokesperson Lenis Valens confirmed that the fire was contained to the engine, and no injuries were reported.
The incident occurred around 8:07 a.m. local time, as the plane was en route to Indianapolis. NBC Philadelphia reported that the blaze erupted after a bird collided with the aircraft.
FedEx spokesperson Austin Kemker praised the crew’s response, stating, “Our crew declared an emergency and returned safely to Newark. We are thankful for the quick actions of our crew and first responders.”
