Elon Musk Responds to TIME Magazine’s ‘To-Do List’ Feature, Clarifies His Goals

Billionaire tech mogul Elon Musk, known for his ambitious ventures ranging from electric vehicles to space exploration, has responded to TIME magazine’s December edition, which featured a headline asking, “What’s next on his to-do list?” The magazine’s cover photo of Musk displayed a checklist of major accomplishments and future aspirations, including goals like “Become richest man,” “Buy Twitter,” “Launch rocket,” “Fly to Mars,” and “Implant human brain chip.” However, the list also included unchecked items like “Slash $2 trillion” and “Fly to Mars.”

On Thursday, Musk took to social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter) to clarify that the list was not his personal checklist. “To be clear, I have not done any media interviews and this is not actually my checklist,” Musk wrote. He emphasized that his true goal is much more far-reaching, stating, “I am trying to make life multiplanetary to maximize the probable lifespan of consciousness.”

The list, which Time Magazine described as part of its feature “Citizen Musk: What’s next on his to-do list?” presents Musk’s many high-profile endeavors, including his recent ownership of X and his pioneering work in the electric vehicle and space industries. Musk has long spoken about his ambition to advance space exploration through his company SpaceX, with plans to send humans to Mars as early as 2026. He has also been a central figure in the electric vehicle revolution, through Tesla, and is known for his controversial takeovers, such as purchasing Twitter, now rebranded as X.

In the feature, the to-do list also included politically charged items, such as “Get Trump elected” and “Work from Mar-a-Lago,” referencing Musk’s support for former President Donald Trump and his involvement in Trump’s political ventures. Musk, who has been a vocal supporter of Trump’s political agenda, has reportedly spent over $100 million to aid Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign.

Additionally, Musk’s name recently surfaced in a significant government role when Trump named him to head the newly created Department of Government Efficiency. Alongside Vivek Ramaswamy, Musk has been tasked with reducing bureaucratic inefficiencies, slashing regulations, and restructuring federal agencies. Trump’s proposal also includes Musk’s goal of cutting $2 trillion from the federal government’s $7 trillion budget.

Musk’s ambitious vision for the future remains focused on maximizing the lifespan of consciousness by making humanity a multiplanetary species. While TIME’s feature may have playfully outlined some of Musk’s larger-than-life projects, the tech mogul is steadfast in pursuing his vision to ensure the long-term survival of humanity, with space exploration at the forefront of his objectives.

With his far-reaching plans, including potential Mars missions and ambitious technological innovations, Musk continues to push the boundaries of what’s possible in both technology and space, all while maintaining his central goal of ensuring the future of human life beyond Earth.
