“Countdown to History: Chandrayaan-3’s Moon Landing Date and Viewing Guide Revealed”

Chandrayaan-3's Moon Landing Date and Time Revealed: How to Watch the Historic Event

India’s ambitious lunar exploration endeavor, Chandrayaan-3, is rapidly approaching a historic milestone as it moves closer to the Moon. Following a successful launch from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Andhra Pradesh’s Sriharikota on July 14, the Chandrayaan-3 mission has achieved a crucial step in its journey. The Lander Module (LM) executed its second and final de-boosting operation on August 20, positioning itself in an orbit with a closest point to the Moon at 25 km and a farthest point at 134 km. The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) reported this significant progress, sharing their plans for the upcoming lunar landing.

As the mission progresses, the LM will undergo internal checks and await sunrise at the designated landing site on the Moon. India’s Chandrayaan-3 is geared to touch down on the lunar surface on August 23, marking a historic achievement that will position India as the fourth nation to successfully land on the Moon, following in the footsteps of the United States, China, and Russia.

ISRO officially announced the date and time for this monumental event through a tweet, declaring, “Chandrayaan-3 is set to land on the Moon on August 23, 2023, around 18:04 Hrs. IST.” The agency’s earlier statement detailed that the lander would aim for a “soft landing” in the south polar region of the Moon, with its propulsion module continuing to orbit the Moon post-landing to study Earth’s atmosphere.

The excitement surrounding this historic event extends beyond scientific circles. ISRO is making provisions for global audiences to witness Chandrayaan-3’s successful completion of its lunar mission. In a tweet shared on August 20, the organization laid out a comprehensive plan for how people across the world can watch this monumental event unfold.

In a message on its official website, ISRO revealed that the “eagerly anticipated event” will be broadcast live on Wednesday, beginning at 17:27 Hrs. IST. The live coverage will be accessible through various platforms, including the ISRO Website, YouTube, ISRO’s Facebook page, and DD National TV channel.

Highlighting the significance of the occasion, ISRO invited schools and educational institutions nationwide to play an active role in this momentous event. Institutions are encouraged to publicize the event among their students and faculty, organizing live streaming of the Chandrayaan-3’s soft landing within their premises.

As the world eagerly awaits this historic lunar landing, the Chandrayaan-3 mission stands as a testament to India’s growing prowess in space exploration and technology. The successful execution of this mission will undoubtedly contribute to humanity’s ongoing exploration of the cosmos, marking a remarkable achievement for the nation’s scientific and technological advancement.
