Financial services company Angel One has refuted claims of a recent data leak affecting nearly 8 million users, following reports of a significant breach. According to The Economic Times, a hacker allegedly accessed sensitive information, including names, addresses, and profit and loss statements of affected customers, which was subsequently posted on a website.
In response to these allegations, Angel One clarified that there has been no new data leak incident. The company stated, “The current issue pertains to an incident that occurred in April 2023, which was promptly reported to the relevant authorities. We assure you that this incident has no impact on client securities, funds, or credentials, and all client accounts remain secure.”
This statement follows earlier reports of a data breach last year, where Angel One acknowledged unauthorized access to names, mobile numbers, and email addresses of users. At that time, the company reassured customers that their financial information and securities remained unaffected despite the breach.
Cybersecurity remains a critical concern in India, with statistics indicating a high frequency of attacks. According to cyber security firm Check Point, Indian organisations faced an average of 2,138 attacks per week in 2023. Cisco’s 2024 Cybersecurity Readiness Index also highlighted that only 4% of Indian organisations exhibit a ‘mature’ readiness level to combat cyber threats, while 37% are categorized as ‘progressive.’
As the investigation into the reported breach continues, Angel One emphasizes its commitment to safeguarding customer data and maintaining transparency regarding cybersecurity incidents.
