“Amazon India’s New ‘Bazaar’ Marketplace Now Available, Aims to Challenge Softbank-backed Meesho”

Amazon India Launches ‘Bazaar’ to Compete with Meesho and Flipkart's Shopsy

Amazon India has officially unveiled its new online marketplace called ‘Bazaar’, aiming to capture the segment of affordable and unbranded products in competition with Softbank-backed Meesho and Flipkart’s Shopsy.

The concept of Amazon Bazaar was first reported in February, and it has now been launched, featuring a variety of products priced below ₹600. The platform is designed to cater to customers looking for budget-friendly options in fashion and home products.

Here’s what you need to know about Amazon’s ‘Bazaar’:

  1. Product Range: According to reports, Amazon Bazaar will offer lifestyle and unbranded fashion products, including clothing, accessories, jewellery, handbags, shoes, traditional and western wear, as well as home goods like kitchenware, towels, bed linens, and decorative items.
  2. Affordability: The platform’s focus is on affordability, with most products priced below ₹600, making it an attractive option for budget-conscious shoppers.
  3. Delivery: Amazon Prime subscribers can expect a delivery estimate of around 4-5 days for Bazaar products. This aligns with customer expectations for standard delivery times for lower-cost items.
  4. Availability: Bazaar is currently accessible through Amazon’s Android app in India. It is prominently featured for a selected group of users, highlighting Amazon’s strategic approach to reach its target audience effectively.
  5. Competition: The launch of Bazaar puts Amazon in direct competition with Softbank-backed Meesho and Flipkart’s Shopsy. This move is significant for Amazon, especially considering its relatively modest user growth in India, as reported in December 2023.

An Amazon India spokesperson expressed enthusiasm about the launch, stating, “We continue to invest and innovate on behalf of our customers and third-party sellers and are excited to introduce the Amazon Bazaar storefront on Amazon.in where customers can discover and shop ultra-affordable fashion and home products listed by sellers, especially from manufacturing hubs across India.”

The introduction of Amazon Bazaar reflects the company’s strategy to diversify its offerings and capture a wider market segment, leveraging its extensive reach and customer base in India’s e-commerce landscape.
