The Adani Group has issued a strong response to allegations of a conspiracy aimed at tarnishing its reputation, as it becomes embroiled in a controversy involving Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra and Hiranandani Group CEO Darshan Hiranandani. The conglomerate alleges that a calculated effort is underway to damage its name, goodwill, and market standing through parliamentary questions.
These allegations surfaced after Supreme Court lawyer Jai Anant Dehadrai filed a complaint with the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), outlining claims that Ms. Moitra received bribes and undue favors from Mr. Hiranandani in exchange for asking questions in parliament, specifically targeting Gautam Adani and his group of companies.
The Adani Group categorically denies any involvement of its key managerial personnel in this controversy. It asserts that these allegations are part of a broader effort to undermine the conglomerate, highlighting that the conspiracy has been in place since 2018.
The Hiranandani Group has similarly refuted the allegations, asserting that they have no merit. They emphasize their focus on business rather than politics, working with the government in the interest of the nation.
The controversy has not been limited to allegations alone, as BJP’s Nishikant Dubey has called for the immediate suspension of Ms. Moitra. He cites alleged breaches of parliamentary privilege, contempt of the house, and criminal conspiracy as grounds for her suspension.
The Adani Group, in its statement, draws attention to the tactics employed by entities and individuals seeking to harm its reputation. It refers to a playbook, including media reports, that appear strategically timed, particularly before important court hearings.
In the interest of stakeholders, including shareholders, the Adani Group issued this statement to address the ongoing allegations and underline its commitment to ethical conduct and corporate integrity.
