"Passenger Protests Erupt at Delhi Airport as IndiGo Cancels Flights Amid Weather Woes"

In a dramatic turn of events at the Delhi airport, frustrated passengers voiced their anger against domestic carrier IndiGo after their flight to Jharkhand’s Deoghar was allegedly cancelled. A video posted by news agency ANI captured the passengers shouting slogans, demanding the cessation of flight cancellations.

The disruption came as over 10 flights were reportedly cancelled, and more than 50 faced delays at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport on Wednesday morning, citing dense fog and adverse weather conditions, according to the flight tracking website Flightradar24. IndiGo had issued an advisory earlier in the day, warning of potential disruptions in flight operations at Delhi, Srinagar, and Chandigarh due to the inclement weather. Passengers were urged to check their flight status before heading to the airport.

The video circulating on social media depicts passengers chanting “bandh karo, bandh karo” (stop it), expressing their frustration with the flight cancellations. The situation highlights the challenges faced by both airlines and passengers during adverse weather conditions, impacting travel plans and causing inconvenience.

This incident follows a recent development where IndiGo was fined ₹1.2 crore for five violations, including passengers seen eating on the tarmac as they awaited their flight to take off. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) labeled it a “violation of apron discipline” and raised concerns about jeopardizing passenger and aircraft safety. IndiGo has been directed to pay the penalty within 30 days, marking one of the highest fines imposed on airlines in recent times.

As passengers continue to grapple with the consequences of flight disruptions, airlines like IndiGo face the challenging task of managing operations amidst unpredictable weather conditions, emphasizing the need for effective communication and contingency plans in such situations.
