“Heavy Fog Continues to Disrupt Delhi: 18 Trains and Numerous Flights Experience Delays”

"Delhi Faces Severe Fog Disruptions: 18 Trains Delayed, Flight Operations Hit"

Dense fog continues to engulf north and northeast India, causing significant disruptions in air and rail travel. On Thursday, a thick layer of fog persisted in parts of Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Assam, and Odisha, leading to reduced visibility and travel delays. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts that these weather conditions are likely to persist for the next five days, with cold wave to severe cold wave conditions expected over northwest India.

As a consequence of the dense fog, 18 trains arriving in Delhi experienced delays of up to six hours due to reduced visibility on the railway tracks, as reported by the India Railways spokesperson. The heavy fog adversely affected the punctuality of these trains, impacting the travel plans of numerous passengers.

Flight operations at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport in Delhi were also severely affected, with visibility reduced to only 50 meters according to the Palam Observatory. Under such conditions, only CAT III-B-compliant runways can facilitate take-offs and landings. As a result, several flights faced delays, leaving passengers stranded at the airport, anxiously awaiting updates on their travel arrangements.

The ongoing dense fog conditions are posing challenges to both rail and air travel, emphasizing the need for travelers to stay informed about potential disruptions and make necessary adjustments to their plans.
