Food delivery platform Swiggy has announced that Bengaluru leads the nation in vegetarian orders, surpassing even the most expected cities for vegetarian cuisine. This revelation comes as part of Swiggy’s latest update on its Green Dot Awards, which highlights the best vegetarian restaurants across India.
Bengaluru: The Veggie Capital
According to Swiggy’s comprehensive order analysis, Bengaluru stands out as the city with the highest number of vegetarian orders in the country. The city, renowned for its tech industry, has also earned the title of “Veggie Valley” due to its strong preference for vegetarian dishes. Popular items in the Karnataka capital include Masala Dosa, Paneer Biryani, and Paneer Butter Masala.
Vegetarian Trends Across India
While Bengaluru leads the way, other Indian cities also showcase distinct vegetarian preferences. In Mumbai, the second-highest city for vegetarian orders, Dal Khichdi, Margherita Pizza, and Pav Bhaji are the top choices. Hyderabad rounds out the top three cities with its favorite vegetarian dishes, including Masala Dosa and Idli.
Swiggy’s analysis reveals that breakfast is a particularly popular meal for vegetarians, with over 90% of breakfast orders being plant-based. Masala Dosa, Vada, Idli, and Pongal are among the most favored breakfast items nationwide.
In terms of snacks, Margherita Pizza emerges as the most popular choice across India, with Samosa and Pav Bhaji closely following. Additionally, there has been a noticeable shift towards healthier eating, with Swiggy reporting over 60,000 weekly orders for vegetarian salads.
The Green Dot Awards
To celebrate the growing demand for vegetarian cuisine, Swiggy has introduced the Green Dot Awards. This initiative aims to recognize and honor the best vegetarian dining options across more than 80 cities in India.
