WhatsApp Outage: Users Face Message Delivery Issues

WhatsApp Down for Thousands of Users, Messages Not Getting Delivered

Messaging platform WhatsApp experienced a significant outage on Friday evening, leaving thousands of users unable to send or receive messages. Outage reporting portal Down Detector recorded over 4,400 reports of service disruption around 9 PM IST.

As users struggled with undelivered messages, many turned to social media to confirm the issue and share memes. The hashtag #WhatsAppDown quickly trended on X (formerly Twitter) in India.

“Stop toggling your Airplane mode on/off. Stop refreshing your WhatsApp. It’s not your network, WhatsApp is down,” one user joked on X. Another wrote, “BREAKING: WhatsApp is down. 𝕏 is up.”

There has been no official statement from WhatsApp regarding the cause of the outage or when services would be fully restored.

The WhatsApp outage comes just a day after workplace communication platform Slack also faced technical issues. Thousands of users reported problems with loading conversations and sending messages. Slack acknowledged the disruption and stated that several API endpoints, message sending and receiving, and thread loading were affected.

At its peak, Slack’s outage saw over 3,000 user reports on Down Detector. Some services began coming back online by mid-morning Wednesday.
