A Vistara flight traveling from Mumbai to Frankfurt was diverted to Erzurum Airport in eastern Turkey on September 6, 2024, due to a security concern, the airline confirmed. The flight, designated UK27, landed safely at 7:05 PM local time.
In a statement on X (formerly Twitter), Vistara stated, “Flight UK27 from Mumbai to Frankfurt has been diverted to Turkey (Erzurum airport) due to security reasons and has landed safely at 1905 hours. Please stay tuned for further updates.” The airline did not provide specific details about the nature of the security concern but indicated that it was flagged by the crew on board.
According to an airline spokesperson, a note indicating a potential security threat was discovered in a bathroom on the aircraft. The crew immediately alerted relevant authorities, and the aircraft was diverted as a precautionary measure. The airline emphasized that the safety and security of passengers, crew, and the aircraft are their highest priorities.
The Turkish authorities conducted mandatory security checks upon the plane’s arrival in Erzurum. Vistara is cooperating fully with the investigation to ensure a thorough review of the situation.
This incident follows a series of recent security concerns involving flights. Last week, an IndiGo flight from Jabalpur to Hyderabad was diverted to Nagpur following a bomb threat. Similarly, on August 22, an Air India flight arriving in Thiruvananthapuram from Mumbai faced a full emergency response after a bomb threat was reported. All passengers on these flights were safely evacuated and provided with assistance.
