“UNGA President Delighted to Visit India During Ayodhya’s ‘Second Diwali’ Amid Ram Temple Consecration”

UNGA President Expresses Joy on India Visit Amid Ram Temple Consecration

United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) President Dennis Francis expressed his delight at arriving in India on what he called the country’s “second Diwali,” referring to the grand consecration ceremony of the Ram temple in Ayodhya. Francis, on a five-day visit from January 22 to 26, aims to strengthen India-UN ties and engage in discussions on key multilateral issues.

In a video shared on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, UNGA President Dennis Francis can be seen being received by India’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ruchira Kamboj, upon his arrival in New Delhi. He conveyed his excitement, saying, “Namaste, Bharat! Delighted to arrive in New Delhi on an auspicious day when the country is celebrating its ‘Second Diwali.’ Looking forward to fruitful discussions over the next few days on Peace, Progress, Prosperity, and Sustainability!”

During his visit, Francis is scheduled to hold talks with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on mutual multilateral interests. He will pay homage to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat, participate in a round table on India’s advancements in Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI), and deliver a public address at the Indian Council of World Affairs (ICWA) on ‘Multilateralism and Peace, Prosperity, Progress, and Sustainability’ on January 24.

In the final two days of his India visit, the UNGA president will travel to Jaipur and Mumbai. Notably, he will participate as a state guest in the Republic Day Parade in Maharashtra.

The timing of Francis’s visit coincides with the grand ‘pran pratishtha’ ceremony held at the Ram temple in Ayodhya, attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat, and other dignitaries. The consecration ceremony, marking a significant moment in India’s cultural and religious history, drew attention from both the nation and global audiences.

The Shri Ram Janmabhoomi temple, constructed in traditional Nagara style, boasts 392 pillars and 44 doors adorned with intricately sculpted depictions of Hindu deities. The idol of Ram Lalla has been placed in the main sanctum sanctorum of the temple on the ground floor, symbolizing the completion of the long-awaited project. Prime Minister Modi, addressing the crowd after the ceremony, expressed his belief in forgiveness from Lord Ram and the historic completion of the temple construction.
