UK Condemns Khalistani Threats and Declares Direct Attacks on Indian Mission “Completely Unacceptable”

London, UK: The United Kingdom (UK) has strongly condemned recent anti-India attacks by Khalistani extremists and declared any direct attacks on the High Commission of India in London as “completely unacceptable.” The UK government emphasized the paramount importance of ensuring the safety of staff at India’s diplomatic mission in the country. This statement comes in response to threats and attacks targeted at Indian diplomatic missions in the US, Australia, and Canada, as well as the circulation of threatening posters online.

UK Foreign Secretary James Cleverly took to Twitter to express his firm stance on the matter, stating that the safety of the staff at the Indian High Commission in London is of utmost significance. The UK government has made it clear to Vikram Doraiswami, the Indian High Commissioner to the UK, and the Government of India that the well-being of the High Commission’s staff is a top priority.

In March, Khalistani extremists attempted to pull down the Indian tricolor and vandalized the windows of the High Commission building, prompting increased security measures by the Metropolitan Police at India House in central London. Cleverly stated that the British government will collaborate with the Metropolitan Police to review security at the Indian High Commission and implement necessary changes to ensure the safety of its staff.

These developments come amidst threats made against Indian envoys and senior diplomats by Khalistani extremists in various parts of the world. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar highlighted the negative impact of the “radical, extremist Khalistani ideology” on India and its partner countries, including the US, Canada, the UK, and Australia. He urged these nations not to provide space to Khalistani activities, as their radical and extremist thinking undermines bilateral relations and poses risks to both nations involved.

In response to the incident in March, India strongly protested to the British government, expressing concern over the safety of its diplomatic mission and raising questions about the adequacy of security measures at the premises.

The UK’s firm condemnation of anti-India attacks and its commitment to ensuring the safety of the Indian High Commission in London sends a clear message that such acts of violence and threats against diplomatic missions will not be tolerated. As the global community continues to address extremist ideologies and maintain diplomatic relations, the focus remains on safeguarding the security and well-being of diplomatic personnel while upholding the principles of mutual respect and cooperation.
