Karnataka has become a hotspot for digital frauds in 2024, with a staggering ₹109.01 crore lost to scammers impersonating government officials. The figures were disclosed by Home Minister G Parameshwara during a session of the Karnataka Legislative Council on December 12. The scams, which involve criminals pretending to be representatives of agencies like the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), or even law enforcement bodies, have raised serious concerns about cybersecurity in the state.

In light of challenges faced by the Karnataka government in procuring sufficient quantities of rice to fulfill its electoral promise, it has decided to provide cash to beneficiaries instead of the additional 5 kg of rice under the 'Anna Bhagya' scheme. The state government will disburse the amount at a rate of Rs 34 per kilogram, starting from July 1.
