In a significant move to bolster India’s defence capabilities and drive self-reliance in the sector, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) has signed a ₹13,500-crore contract with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) for the procurement of 12 Sukhoi-30 (Su-30) fighter aircraft. The deal, finalized on Thursday, includes not only the aircraft but also associated equipment for the Indian Air Force (IAF), further advancing the country's efforts to reduce dependence on foreign military imports.

The Indian Defence Ministry has inked a major ₹26,000-crore contract with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) to supply 240 AL-31FP engines for the Indian Air Force's (IAF) Sukhoi-30 MKI fighter jets. This contract, cleared by the Cabinet Committee on Security, will ensure the continued operational readiness of the IAF’s Su-30 fleet, reinforcing the country's defence capabilities.
