PM Modi and Google CEO Sundar Pichai Discuss Electronics Manufacturing and AI Tools in Virtual Meeting

In a virtual meeting, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Google’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Sundar Pichai recently delved into various aspects of collaboration, including the expansion of the electronics manufacturing ecosystem in India and leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) tools for enhanced governance.

PM Modi commended Google for its partnership with Hewlett Packard (HP) to manufacture Chromebooks within India, reinforcing the commitment to boost local manufacturing. Additionally, he appreciated Google’s “100 languages initiative” and encouraged efforts to provide AI tools in multiple Indian languages. The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) issued a statement highlighting the discussion’s key points.

Furthermore, PM Modi encouraged Google to actively engage in the development of AI tools for good governance, underlining the potential for technology to enhance public administration.

The Indian Prime Minister extended a warm welcome to Google’s plan to establish its global fintech operations center at the Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT) in Gandhinagar. Sundar Pichai shared his vision for enhancing financial inclusion in India by capitalizing on the capabilities and widespread reach of GPay and UPI. He also emphasized Google’s commitment to contributing to India’s development path.

Additionally, PM Modi extended an invitation to Google to participate in the forthcoming Global Partnership on AI Summit, which India is set to host in December 2023 in New Delhi. This summit will serve as a platform for global collaboration and discussions on AI’s ethical use and implications.

This virtual meeting followed Sundar Pichai’s previous engagements with Prime Minister Modi. During the Prime Minister’s state visit to the United States earlier this year, Pichai expressed Google’s $10 billion investment commitment to India’s digitization fund. He also announced the establishment of a global fintech operation center in Gujarat’s GIFT City, applauding PM Modi’s vision for Digital India.

The meeting also reiterates the importance of global cooperation and innovation, emphasizing the role of technology in fostering human prosperity and sustainable development, as evident in the exchange of ideas between PM Modi and Sundar Pichai.

This collaboration between India and Google is poised to drive advancements in the electronics manufacturing sector and the use of AI tools to enhance governance, further contributing to the nation’s digital transformation and development.
