Google to Ship India-Manufactured Pixel Smartphones to Europe and US: Report

Google to Ship India-Manufactured Pixel Smartphones to Europe and US: Report

Google is set to position India as a significant export hub for its Pixel range of smartphones, targeting markets in Europe and the United States, according to a report by Moneycontrol. The tech giant has already initiated trial production in Tamil Nadu in collaboration with Foxconn, a major manufacturer of Apple devices.

Commercial production is expected to begin soon through Foxconn and Dixon subsidiary Padget Electronics. Sources cited by Moneycontrol revealed that Google will officially announce its plans in the second half of the year. “Google is a large brand, which Dixon will add to its customer list in the second half of the year through its partnership with Compal. They will share the production with Foxconn,” a source stated.

The report also disclosed that the base variant of the Pixel smartphones will be manufactured by home-grown Dixon Technologies, while Foxconn will handle the production of Pro variants. The initial plan focuses on serving the European market, with plans to address demand in the US with India-made Pixel smartphones in the future.

Commercial production is slated to commence in September, with exports beginning once production stabilizes. The report highlighted that due to the low demand for Pixel smartphones in India, Google intends to export most of the locally produced devices from Foxconn and Dixon facilities, leveraging the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) benefits.
