Emirates Airline Prohibits Pagers and Walkie-Talkies Amid Hezbollah-Linked Attacks

In a significant safety measure, Emirates Airline has announced a ban on pagers and walkie-talkies on all flights traveling to, from, or via Dubai. This decision comes in response to alarming incidents linked to the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah, which have raised security concerns in the region.

The airline’s announcement was made on Friday, emphasizing that passengers are prohibited from carrying these devices in both checked and cabin baggage. Items found in hand luggage or checked baggage will be confiscated by Dubai Police, as stated in the airline’s warning.

This ban follows recent reports of simultaneous explosions involving thousands of pagers across Lebanon, which were followed by similar detonations from walkie-talkies. According to Lebanese officials, these attacks have been attributed to Israel, resulting in heightened tensions in the region. Tragically, at least 37 people, including children, have been killed, and nearly 3,000 others injured due to these incidents.

A Lebanese security source revealed that the explosive materials used in these attacks were cleverly concealed within the lithium batteries of the devices, making them nearly undetectable during standard security checks.

In conjunction with the ban, Emirates Airline has confirmed that it will resume services to Jordan’s capital, Amman, starting Sunday. However, flights to and from Beirut will remain cancelled until at least October 15. Passengers transiting through Dubai to reach Beirut will not be permitted to travel from their point of origin until further notice.

Additionally, flights to and from Iraq and Iran will remain cancelled until at least Monday, as safety concerns continue to rise across the region. Other airlines have also followed suit, cancelling flights to Beirut and several other airports amid the ongoing conflict.

The situation escalated further over the weekend when Israeli fighter jets conducted significant airstrikes on southern Beirut. The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed that the strikes were aimed at destroying Hezbollah’s infrastructure and warned residents to evacuate the area prior to the attacks.
