US aerospace giant Boeing has announced plans to deliver 24 aircraft to Indian airlines in 2025, with additional deliveries expected from 2027 onwards.
Boeing, one of the world’s leading aircraft manufacturers, stated that it will deliver two aircraft per month on average this year. The deliveries will include both single-aisle aircraft, such as the Boeing 737, and larger dual-aisle planes like the Boeing 787 and Boeing 777.
Ryan Weir, Vice President of Commercial Sales and Marketing at Boeing, confirmed that the company will continue to deliver aircraft to Indian carriers at a similar rate in 2026. However, he indicated that production could ramp up from 2027.
Challenges in Aircraft Deliveries
Boeing has faced delays in aircraft deliveries due to ongoing supply chain disruptions. A significant factor affecting production has been a labor strike at Boeing’s headquarters in Seattle.
“We do expect the impact of supply chain issues to last for some period of time. It’s going to take a while to recover,” Weir admitted.
India’s Aviation Market Poised for Major Expansion
Boeing also highlighted the long-term growth potential of India’s aviation industry, predicting a near fourfold expansion of the commercial aircraft fleet in India and South Asia over the next two decades.
According to the company’s market outlook, airlines in India and South Asia will require 2,835 new aircraft by 2043 to meet the surging demand for air travel. Of these, 2,445 will be single-aisle jets, 370 will be widebody aircraft, and 20 will be freighters, with a few regional jets included as well.
Ashwin Naidu, Managing Director of Commercial Marketing for India and South Asia at Boeing, emphasized the region’s rapid aviation growth.
“India and South Asia will need 2,835 new airplanes by 2043, continuing the fleet growth observed over the last decade,” he said.
Boeing expects annual air traffic growth in the region to exceed 7% through 2043, fueled by economic expansion, improved connectivity, and government policies promoting air travel liberalization.
Infrastructure Development Boosting Growth
The company also acknowledged India’s increasing investments in airport infrastructure, which are expected to enhance aviation capacity.
New airports in Noida and Navi Mumbai are anticipated to play a crucial role in boosting air traffic once they become fully operational. Boeing cited Goa’s Mopa airport as an example, noting a 33% increase in capacity since its launch.
With Indian airlines expanding their fleets and infrastructure improvements underway, Boeing remains optimistic about the region’s aviation sector, despite the short-term challenges posed by supply chain constraints.
