Air India Express has reached an agreement with its cabin crew, ending a strike that resulted in flight cancellations and disruptions. The airline has agreed to reinstate the 25 cabin crew members who were terminated for calling in sick, bringing relief to hundreds of affected passengers.
The strike, which began earlier in the week due to various issues raised by the cabin crew, led to a stalemate that lasted for two and a half days. However, after negotiations, both parties reached a middle ground, addressing the grievances and resolving the standoff.
In response to the strike, Air India Express had initially issued termination letters to the protesting cabin crew members. This move exacerbated the situation, leading to flight cancellations and delays. The sudden shortage of cabin crew prompted the airline to curtail flights until May 13 and seek support from Air India on certain routes.
The issues raised by the cabin crew included concerns about room sharing, lack of support, salary structure revisions, and alleged differential treatment of experienced crew members, among others. The civil aviation ministry also sought a report from Air India Express regarding the flight disruptions.
Following the resolution of the strike, Air India Express announced that operations would resume with the support of Air India on 20 routes. The airline apologized for the inconvenience caused to passengers and offered refunds or alternative flight arrangements.
