In a significant move, the Telangana government has received approval from the state cabinet to transition from ‘TS’ to ‘TG’ as the official abbreviation on vehicle registration number plates, according to reports from PTI. Additionally, the cabinet has endorsed the adoption of ‘Jaya Jaya He Telangana,’ a renowned composition by poet Ande Sri, as the official state song.
Telangana minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy highlighted various decisions taken by the Congress government, including altering the state’s official symbol to better reflect the people without any trace of monarchy. The cabinet meeting, held on Sunday night, also announced the commencement of the Assembly session on February 8, with Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan delivering the opening address.
During the upcoming Assembly session, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy is expected to reveal implementation details for two additional electoral assurances promised by the Congress party. Out of the six commitments made during elections, the government has already initiated the implementation of two, namely free travel for women in state-run RTC buses and a health scheme offering ₹10 lakh to the economically disadvantaged.
The cabinet’s nod to the government’s previously announced initiative of conducting a ‘caste census’ in the state signals a commitment to gathering comprehensive demographic data. Additionally, the endorsement of the revival of the state-operated Nizam Sugars Factory and the establishment of the Kodangal Area Development Authority were notable decisions. Kodangal is the Assembly constituency represented by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy.
Telangana, established on June 2, 2014, as the 28th state of India, has recently seen a change in leadership. The Congress party, led by Revanth Reddy, emerged victorious in the Assembly polls held on November 30, 2023, securing 64 out of 119 seats. The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), which had governed the state for two consecutive terms, secured 38 seats. The BJP won eight seats, and AIMIM secured seven.
As Telangana continues to implement changes and fulfill electoral promises, the decisions made by the state government reflect its commitment to governance, demographic representation, and development initiatives.
