Swiggy Brings in Top Talent from Flipkart and Amazon to Drive Expansion, Launches New Services Ahead of IPO Debut

Swiggy, the popular food delivery platform, is bringing on senior talent from major e-commerce players like Flipkart and Amazon as it prepares for ambitious expansion plans. According to a report by Moneycontrol, Swiggy has recruited at least 12 seasoned executives from these companies over the past four months, bolstering its leadership team. Recent appointments include Shalabh Shrivastava, former Vice President at Flipkart; Hari Kumar G, another former Flipkart VP, who now serves as Swiggy Instamart’s Senior Vice President and Chief Business Officer; and Amitesh Jha, previously an SVP at Flipkart, who has joined as the CEO of Swiggy Instamart.

These executive hires are expected to bring expertise in sectors such as furniture, electronics, and fashion, areas Swiggy aims to leverage to drive higher average order values (AOVs) and enhance operational efficiency. The company is also expanding its offerings with new services such as ‘Yello,’ a marketplace for professional services, and ‘Rare,’ a premium membership service aimed at increasing customer loyalty and engagement.

Swiggy’s strategic hires and service expansions come at a critical time, as the company prepares to make its debut on the stock exchanges on Wednesday, November 12, 2024. Swiggy’s high-profile IPO, launched last week, was met with lukewarm interest initially but ended up being subscribed three times over, primarily by institutional investors on the final day.

The competitive landscape is further intensified as Swiggy’s direct rival, Zomato, has already been listed since July 2021 and recently reported profitability, in contrast to Swiggy, which remains in the red, though it managed to narrow its losses in the fiscal year 2023-24. Swiggy hopes that its recent hires, expanded services, and IPO debut will help position it for sustained growth in the competitive food delivery market.
