Zomato Co-Founder Akriti Chopra Resigns After 13 Years with the Company

Zomato co-founder Akriti Chopra has officially stepped down from her position after a notable 13-year tenure at the food delivery giant. Her resignation took effect on September 27, 2024, as confirmed by the company in a filing with the stock exchanges.

Chopra, who served as the Chief People Officer (CPO), joined Zomato in November 2011. She began her journey with the company as a senior manager of finance and operations. Over the years, she climbed the corporate ladder, taking on various roles including Vice President of Finance & Operations and Chief Financial Officer (CFO). In June 2021, she transitioned to her final role as CPO, where she focused on people development within the organization.

In her resignation email addressed to CEO Deepinder Goyal, Chopra expressed gratitude for her time at Zomato, stating, “It’s been an incredibly enriching journey over the past 13 years. Thank you for everything. I’m always a call away :)”

Chopra’s departure comes at a time of transition for Zomato, which has seen several leadership changes in recent years. Notably, co-founder and former Chief Technology Officer Gunjan Patidar resigned in January 2023, and co-founder Mohit Gupta stepped down in November 2022 after being elevated to co-founder status in 2020 from his position as CEO of the food delivery segment.

As for her future plans, Zomato indicated that Chopra intends to explore new interests outside the company, marking the end of an era for one of its key founding members. Her contributions over the years have been instrumental in shaping Zomato into a leading name in the food delivery industry.

Zomato will continue to navigate the evolving food tech landscape, and Chopra’s departure is a significant change for the team that has grown and adapted alongside her leadership.
