Uber Eats Driver in Australia Fired After Being Caught Urinating in Lift

An Uber Eats driver in Australia has been sacked after being caught on camera allegedly urinating in the lift of a customer’s apartment building. The incident took place on March 10 in Artarmon, a suburb in Sydney’s North Shore.

The driver was seen holding a takeout bag from Betty’s Burgers in his right hand while facing away from the camera. He then appeared to reach for his pants and move to the front corner of the lift. Footage from the building’s security camera reportedly showed a visible wet patch on the carpet after he exited.

Uber Eats swiftly responded to the incident by deactivating the driver’s account, permanently barring him from the platform. In a statement, the company said, “We strongly condemn this kind of behavior, which has no place on the Uber platform. Our community guidelines clearly set out the rules that we expect all users, including delivery people, to follow. A breach of these guidelines can result in loss of access to the Uber app.”

The incident has sparked outrage among residents of the building, with many expressing their disgust. Geoffrey Grasso, the building’s resident and secretary, told Australian radio station 2GB, “It’s just revolting. I don’t know what goes through somebody’s mind to think that that, in any way, shape, or form, is acceptable.”

Authorities have also taken notice, with New South Wales (NSW) Police confirming that an investigation has been launched.

The incident highlights growing concerns about the conduct of gig economy workers and the need for stricter monitoring and enforcement of professional behavior in the industry.
