Tech Prodigy Lucy Guo Beats Taylor Swift as Youngest Self-Made Woman Billionaire

Lucy Guo Becomes World’s Youngest Self-Made Woman Billionaire, Surpasses Taylor Swift

Tech entrepreneur Lucy Guo has quietly made history by becoming the world’s youngest self-made woman billionaire at just 30 years old, surpassing music sensation Taylor Swift. According to Forbes, Guo’s fortune soared thanks to the explosive growth of her former company, Scale AI, which is nearing a tender offer that could value the startup at a staggering $25 billion.

Scale AI, founded in 2016 by Guo and Alexandr Wang, specializes in labeling data used to train artificial intelligence systems—a critical service in today’s AI-driven landscape. The company boasts major clients including the U.S. government and OpenAI. The tender offer, expected to close on June 1, allows early employees and investors to sell shares, marking a significant financial windfall.

From Code to Capital

Guo’s journey is emblematic of Silicon Valley’s startup culture. The daughter of Chinese immigrants, she began coding in middle school and briefly attended Carnegie Mellon University before dropping out to accept a prestigious Thiel Fellowship. She later worked at Quora and Snapchat before co-founding Scale AI.

After departing from Scale, Guo continued building her legacy in tech. She launched Backend Capital, a venture capital firm, and made early investments in successful startups such as Ramp. In 2022, she founded Passes, a subscription-based content platform similar to OnlyFans and Patreon. The platform, valued at $150 million, has attracted big names like gymnast Olivia Dunne, NBA icon Shaquille O’Neal, and DJ Kygo.

Legal Controversy

Despite her entrepreneurial success, Guo has faced legal challenges. Passes is currently under legal scrutiny following a lawsuit alleging that the platform hosted child sexual abuse material (CSAM). A spokesperson for Passes has denied the allegations, stating that all underage creators were banned prior to the lawsuit being filed and that the company “refutes any claims” of endorsing such content.

A New Billionaire Milestone

Guo’s financial ascent dethrones Taylor Swift, 35, who was previously named the youngest self-made woman billionaire in 2023. Globally, there are just over 100 self-made women billionaires, and of the six under age 40, three—including Guo—are American.

With her achievements, Guo not only breaks financial barriers but also represents a new generation of tech-savvy, risk-taking women entrepreneurs reshaping industries and wealth landscapes alike.
