In an emotional tribute at the audio launch of their upcoming film Vettaiyan, Rajinikanth shared heartfelt memories of Amitabh Bachchan’s struggles during a financial crisis. The event, held in Chennai, celebrated the first collaboration between the two iconic actors in over three decades, generating significant excitement among fans.
Rajinikanth recounted a difficult period in Bachchan’s career when he faced immense challenges, stating, “When Amit ji was producing films, he broke into a big loss. He was not even able to pay his watchman. His Juhu home came into public bidding. The whole Bollywood was laughing at him.” He emphasized how, despite the mockery, Bachchan persevered and made a remarkable comeback, stating, “In three years, he did all the ads, KBC earned all the money, and he bought back three homes along with the Juhu home on the same street. He is such an inspiration.”
Rajinikanth praised Bachchan’s work ethic, noting, “He is 82 years old and is working for 10 hours a day,” underscoring the actor’s dedication and resilience.
The tribute also highlighted Bachchan’s roots, with Rajinikanth acknowledging his father’s influence as a renowned writer and the challenges Amitabh faced in establishing his own career without family connections. Rajinikanth reminisced about a serious accident that befell Bachchan, recalling how Indira Gandhi rushed back to India upon hearing the news, emphasizing the deep ties between Bachchan and the political elite, particularly Rajiv Gandhi, with whom he studied.
In Vettaiyan, Amitabh Bachchan plays a character named Sathyadev, while Rajinikanth’s character remains undisclosed. The film also features Ritika Singh as a cop named Roopa, Dushara Vijayan as a teacher named Saranya, Manju Warrier as Thara, Rana Daggubati as Natraj, and Fahadh Faasil as Patrick. Vettaiyan marks Bachchan’s debut in Telugu cinema and Rajinikanth’s 170th film, set to release in theaters on October 10, coinciding with Dusshera celebrations.
