PM Modi to Launch Infrastructure Projects Worth ₹29,400 Crore in Mumbai

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Mumbai today, marking his first official trip to the city since assuming office for the third consecutive term earlier this month. The visit follows the National Democratic Alliance’s victory in the recent Lok Sabha elections.

At around 5:30 p.m., Prime Minister Modi will arrive at the NESCO Exhibition Centre in Goregaon, Mumbai, to inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for multiple infrastructure projects valued at over ₹29,400 crore. These projects span the road, railways, and ports sectors, aimed at enhancing connectivity and bolstering transportation infrastructure in the region.

Key highlights of the projects include:

  • Goregaon Mulund Link Road (GMLR): A significant road connectivity project spanning approximately 6.65 kilometers, linking the Western Express Highway at Goregaon to the Eastern Express Highway at Mulund. This route will provide direct access to the proposed new airport at Navi Mumbai and the Pune-Mumbai Expressway.
  • Kalyan Yard Remodelling: This project will segregate long-distance and suburban traffic, thereby improving operational efficiency and capacity at Kalyan Yard.
  • Gati Shakti Multi-Modal Cargo Terminal: Located in Turbhe, Navi Mumbai, this terminal will cover an area exceeding 32,600 sq m and create employment opportunities by handling commodities like cement.
  • Railway Station Upgrades: The Prime Minister will dedicate new platforms at Lokmanya Tilak Terminus and extend Platforms No. 10 and 11 at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus Station. These enhancements will accommodate longer trains, increasing passenger capacity and improving service efficiency.

Later in the evening, around 7 p.m., Prime Minister Modi will visit the Indian Newspaper Society (INS) Secretariat at G-Block, Bandra Kurla Complex, to inaugurate the new INS Towers. This modern facility aims to meet the evolving needs of INS members and serve as a central hub for the newspaper industry in Mumbai.

Additionally, the Prime Minister will launch the Mukhyamantri Yuva Karya Prashikshan Yojana, a ₹5,600 crore initiative aimed at providing skill enhancement and industry exposure to youth aged 18 to 30 years, addressing youth unemployment through transformative internships.

Prime Minister Modi’s visit underscores the government’s commitment to infrastructure development and economic growth in Maharashtra, promising significant advancements in transportation, employment, and urban infrastructure.
