Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday inaugurated the much-anticipated Janakpuri West-Krishna Park Extension section of Delhi Metro’s Phase IV, marking a significant milestone in the expansion of the capital’s metro network. This extension is the first stretch of Phase IV to be inaugurated, and passenger services are expected to begin from 3 pm on the same day.
The new section is part of the Magenta Line, which already connects the Botanical Garden to Janakpuri West. With the addition of the Krishna Park Extension station, the Magenta Line now spans a total of approximately 40 kilometers. This extension aims to ease travel and enhance connectivity between key areas in the capital.
As a part of the Phase IV expansion, the Magenta Line will continue to grow, with plans for further extensions to R K Ashram Marg expected to be completed by 2026. These extensions will provide a more seamless experience for commuters traveling across different parts of Delhi.
In addition to inaugurating the Janakpuri West-Krishna Park Extension, PM Modi also laid the foundation stone for the 26.5-kilometer Rithala-Kundli corridor. Once complete, this new corridor will have 21 stations, benefiting people living in areas like Rohini, Bawana, and Kundli. The new corridor will significantly enhance connectivity between Delhi, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh, opening up better access to residential, commercial, and industrial zones.
The Rithala-Kundli corridor is expected to transform regional travel and boost economic activities in the region by improving access to important residential and commercial centers.
With the continued expansion of Delhi Metro, the city is poised to see more comprehensive and efficient transport options, easing congestion and making commuting more accessible for millions of people.
