“Noida’s DLF Mall of India Evacuated Following False Bomb Threat”

Noida: DLF Mall of India Evacuated After Hoax Bomb Threat

The DLF Mall of India in Sector 18 was evacuated this morning following an alleged bomb threat email that led to a large-scale security operation. The evacuation began around 11 a.m., causing a temporary suspension of all activities within the mall, including movie screenings.

Police officials confirmed that after receiving the bomb threat email, a comprehensive search was conducted. Additional Commissioner of Police Shivhari Meena stated, “We received information about a bomb threat at DLF Mall. Police teams and a bomb disposal squad were immediately dispatched to the scene. No explosives or suspicious objects were found, and by 1 p.m., the mall resumed normal operations.”

During the evacuation, several shoppers and patrons, including Naman Chhabra from Sector 107, had to leave abruptly. Chhabra, who was watching a movie at the mall’s theater, described the sudden halt: “Midway through the movie, security guards entered and announced the need for evacuation. We were not informed of the reason but were instructed to exit quickly.” Another shopper, Siddha Mishra from IP Extension, Delhi, chose to leave immediately after being evacuated, stating, “I had just arrived when the evacuation started.”

Contrary to the police’s reports, the mall management initially claimed that the incident was a planned security drill. A spokesperson for DLF Mall of India stated around 1:30 p.m., “The recent activity was a security drill conducted in collaboration with Noida Police. The mall is now open and fully operational.” This statement, however, was later contradicted by police officials.

Additional Commissioner Meena and Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Noida) Manish Mishra both affirmed that the incident was a genuine response to a bomb threat, not a drill. Mishra stated, “We will contact the mall management to clarify why their media statement described the situation as a drill.”

The Noida Police’s cyber team is investigating the source of the threat email as the mall’s operations return to normalcy. The incident caused significant disruption, but fortunately, no injuries or damages were reported. The mall’s commitment to high security standards was emphasized, with management ensuring the safety of all patrons.
