The Karnataka government, under Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, is set to introduce an innovative digital platform aimed at enhancing food ordering and service efficiency at Indira Canteens, as reported by The Times of India. This new system is designed to modernize how meals are ordered and picked up at these popular low-cost eateries.
The digital platform will allow patrons to reserve meals at their nearest Indira Canteen, ensuring that food is prepared and set aside for a short time to accommodate the customer’s arrival. This method emphasizes improving the in-person pickup process rather than traditional food delivery services.
In addition to meal reservations, the system will incorporate a feedback mechanism. Customers will have the ability to rate their food quality and report any issues directly through the platform. This immediate feedback will be accessible to authorities, helping to swiftly address concerns related to food quality, contractor management, and cleanliness.
The new system will first be implemented as a pilot project in Rajarajeshwari Nagar. The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is currently calling for tenders to support this digital upgrade. Should the pilot prove successful, the initiative is expected to expand to other districts throughout the state based on customer feedback.
This digital transformation is part of a broader initiative to reinforce Indira Canteens’ reputation as a reliable and affordable dining option for the economically disadvantaged and lower-middle class. Authorities plan to use daily transaction and customer preference data to adjust menu offerings at each canteen to better meet local demand.
