Jagannath Temple Priest Plans 300-Room Luxury Resort for Pilgrims in Puri

Jagannath Temple Priest to Build 300-Room Luxury Resort for Pilgrims in Puri

A priest of the renowned Jagannath Temple in Puri has announced plans to develop a 300-room luxury resort designed to provide a “satvik” experience to pilgrims and travelers. The resort, named Jagannatham, aims to blend spiritual serenity with modern comforts while maintaining a strict vegetarian and non-liquor policy.

Sevayat Daitapati Bhabani Das, the priest behind the project, stated that the beachside retreat will offer an atmosphere of spiritual tranquility for visitors. “Puri is not just a destination. It is a sacred abode where divinity meets the ocean. The resort will offer a blend of spiritual tranquillity and luxury hospitality,” Das said at a press conference.

High-End Spiritual Retreat

The ₹200 crore project is being developed under Meridian Mist Hotel & Resort on a seven-acre beachfront plot along the Puri-Konark Marine Drive, approximately 8 km from the Jagannath Temple. The construction cost, excluding land, is estimated at ₹110 crore.

Das clarified that he owns the land personally and that there is no conflict of interest with the Jagannath Temple administration. The resort is expected to open before the 2026 Rath Yatra, with a completion timeline of 14-16 months.

Exclusive Membership Plans

Jagannatham will function on an exclusive membership basis, with three-tiered plans priced at ₹3.5 lakh, ₹5 lakh, and ₹7 lakh. Members will receive a three-night stay per month for five years, making it a cost-effective alternative to premium resorts in Puri. The project aims to attract 5,000 members in its initial phase.

Although Das and his family currently own 100% of the project, they are open to equity dilution based on the response to the membership program.

State-of-the-Art Amenities

The resort will feature:

  • Studio and deluxe cottages
  • A spa and wellness spaces
  • An amphitheater
  • A jogging track and tennis court

With its focus on high-end spiritual tourism, the project is set to redefine luxury hospitality in Puri, drawing both pilgrims and elite travelers seeking a serene retreat.
