Dhruv Loya, a recent Biomedical Engineering graduate from the University at Buffalo (UB), has successfully secured a position at Tesla as a Powerwall Technical Support Specialist after an arduous five-month job search. Despite having a strong academic record, with a GPA of 3.4, internships, and active involvement in extracurricular activities like rowing and winning a dance competition at UB, Loya experienced significant challenges during his job search.

The months of searching were not without their difficulties. Loya faced financial hardships that led to the loss of his lease and health insurance. Compounding these challenges was the uncertainty surrounding his visa status. He revealed that during this tough period, he relied on friends for temporary housing, often sleeping on air mattresses.

Despite these obstacles, Loya maintained a positive outlook and approached his job search with determination. He treated it like a full-time job, dedicating his weekdays to applications while ensuring he took time to unwind in the evenings and on weekends.

In his LinkedIn post, Loya shared the resources that proved invaluable in securing interviews, including online job platforms like LinkedIn, Indeed, Handshake, and Jobright.ai. He also utilized tools such as Hunter.io for cold emailing potential employers and ChatGPT+ for tailoring his resume and cover letter.

Loya’s previous experience includes internships at CoreHaptics, Boehringer Ingelheim, and the University at Buffalo. Graduating in May 2024, he is now excited to embark on his new career journey with Tesla in New York.

His story serves as an inspiration to many, demonstrating that perseverance, strategic planning, and a positive mindset can lead to success in even the most challenging job markets.
