Heavy Rain Causes Waterlogging at Bengaluru’s Phoenix Mall of Asia, Impacting Access for Customers

Bengaluru's Phoenix Mall of Asia Waterlogged After Heavy Rain

Bengaluru’s Phoenix Mall of Asia in Yelahanka was heavily waterlogged following intense thunderstorms that hit the city on Tuesday. Social media visuals captured the extent of the flooding, showing that the mall’s entire parking area and entrance were submerged, making it difficult for customers to access the facility.

The massive rainfall created chaos around the mall, which opened in 2023 and has already faced scrutiny regarding its location and infrastructure. The mall management is currently working to drain the water and restore accessibility for visitors.

This incident is not the first time the mall has been in the news for operational issues; last year, Bengaluru police ordered it to shut down for 15 days due to traffic congestion caused by unregulated parking. Following the order, the mall’s management challenged the decision in court.

In light of the adverse weather conditions, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Bengaluru, predicting more rainfall until tomorrow. The Karnataka government has also announced a holiday for all schools and colleges in the city on Wednesday. Bengaluru Urban District Collector Jagadeesha advised IT and private firms to allow employees to work from home to mitigate the impact of the anticipated traffic snarls due to the ongoing rain.

Authorities are urging residents to exercise caution while commuting as the heavy rains are expected to disrupt transportation across the city in the coming days.
