GitHub CEO Thomas Dohmke recently revisited Bengaluru’s iconic Brigade Road, capturing a nostalgic moment by recreating a photo taken 16 years ago at the same spot. Dohmke, who was in India this week, expressed his affection for the country, referring to it as his “new home away from home.”
In a post on social media, Dohmke shared his sentiments about India, quoting Mahatma Gandhi and expressing optimism about human progress through technology. “I dearly love this country, a new home away from home. I promise, I’ll be back soon,” he stated.
This visit marked Dohmke’s first trip to India as GitHub CEO, although he had previously visited the country in 2008. Sharing a throwback photo from Brigade Road, he humorously noted that he hasn’t aged at all since then.
Brigade Road, situated in central Bengaluru, has long been a vibrant hotspot for shopping and socializing, particularly popular among young people and college students. Dohmke’s visit coincided with his participation in a company event in Bengaluru, where he addressed India’s burgeoning developer community and the transformative potential of AI in driving digital and economic progress.
Prior to leading GitHub, Dohmke co-founded HockeyApp, which was later acquired by Microsoft. With a background in mechanical engineering from the University of Glasgow, UK, Dohmke brings a wealth of experience to his role as CEO, focusing on empowering developers and advancing technological innovation.
