Dhruv Agarwala, the CEO of REA India, has announced his resignation to embark on a new entrepreneurial journey after 14 years with the company. REA India, a subsidiary of Australia’s REA Group, owns leading real estate platforms Housing.com, Makaan.com, and brokerage firm PropTiger.
Agarwala, who co-founded PropTiger in 2011, played a crucial role in shaping India’s proptech industry. In 2017, he led the acquisition of Housing.com from SoftBank and other investors. Three years later, in 2020, Australia’s REA Group acquired Elara Technologies—the parent company of Housing.com and PropTiger—consolidating its presence in India’s digital real estate sector.
Leadership Transition Underway
REA Group confirmed Agarwala’s departure in a statement on Thursday, stating that he would stay on to facilitate a smooth leadership transition while the company searches for his successor.
“Dhruv is an exceptional entrepreneur who has harnessed the rapid expansion of digital real estate in India to build a high-growth business. He leaves behind a considerable legacy that will have a lasting impact,” said REA Group CEO Owen Wilson.
Reflecting on his decision, Agarwala described his tenure at REA India as a “privilege.”
“From founding PropTiger in 2011 to growing Housing.com into India’s foremost digital real estate platform, it has been an amazing journey. Now feels like the right time for me to step away and create space for new leadership,” Agarwala said.
Strong Financial Performance
Despite his departure, Agarwala assured that REA India is in “great shape” with a solid strategy and a strong team. The company recorded a 46% growth in revenue, reaching AUD 64 million (₹357 crore) in the first half of the 2024-25 fiscal year. Its annual revenue for 2023-24 grew 31% to ₹563 crore, up from ₹430 crore in the previous year, helping reduce losses.
As a full-stack real estate technology firm, REA India has established itself as a market leader in the sector. With a leadership transition now in progress, the company is expected to continue its growth trajectory under new management.
