Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate from Kalkaji, Atishi, has launched a crowdfunding campaign to support her candidature for the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections. Addressing a press conference on Sunday, she appealed to the public to donate funds to help her raise ₹40 lakh, emphasizing the AAP’s commitment to politics of integrity and public service.
Public Appeal for Support
Atishi shared an online donation link during the press conference and expressed her confidence in the public’s support. “The AAP has always relied on small donations from common people, which has enabled us to pursue honest and work-centric politics,” she stated.
On social media platform X, Atishi reflected on her political journey and the public’s role in her success. “Over the past five years, you’ve stood by me as an MLA, a minister, and now as the Chief Minister of Delhi. None of this would have been possible without your blessings and support,” she wrote.
She added, “As a young, educated woman, your belief and donations have enabled me to imagine a career in politics—a path I couldn’t have walked alone. Now, as we face another election campaign, I need your support once again.”
Previous Crowdfunding Efforts
This campaign follows a similar move by senior AAP leader Manish Sisodia, who launched a crowdfunding platform in December to seek financial support for his own election campaign.
Delhi Elections: Key Details
The elections for all 70 seats of the Delhi Assembly are scheduled for February 5, with votes set to be counted on February 8. The AAP, which secured 67 seats in 2015 and 62 in 2020, is aiming for a third consecutive term.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which won three seats in 2015 and eight in 2020, is yet to announce its chief ministerial candidate. Congress, which failed to secure any seats in the last two elections, is not contesting the elections in alliance with the AAP despite being part of the INDIA bloc at the national level.
Atishi Criticizes BJP’s Strategy
Taking a jab at the BJP, Atishi claimed her sources indicated that Ramesh Bidhuri, known for his controversial remarks, might be announced as the BJP’s chief ministerial candidate. “The BJP has not declared their candidate yet, but credible sources suggest that they will announce the person who hurls the most abuses as their CM candidate,” she remarked.
The AAP’s emphasis on small-scale public donations aligns with its grassroots approach to governance, while its electoral strategy focuses on showcasing its record in public service and development.
